Creating The Best Living Environment For Your Aging Parent

The purpose of this guide is to offer a practical tool for discussion, assessment, information, and resources for senior adults, their families, and those involved with caring and providing for senior adults.

This book offers guidance on quantifying a person’s skill levels in dealing with their daily activities, resources available to assist in securing assistance, and numerous checklists that provide both information on possible accommodations as well as consideration of various possible housing alternatives, such as assisted living and nursing home.

Also included in this book is the Activities of Daily Living Guide, which can be used to appraise how an elderly person is functioning in his or her daily life.

What you’ll find in this book, you would won’t find anywhere else, is the extensive list of ideas for making accommodations or adaptations in the home which will allow a person to function better, more easily and more safely while remaining in their own home.

“This book is a MUST-HAVE for all of us who are participating in the care of our elderly parents, either directly or from afar. Ms. Boterf deftly addresses the tough issues we must face when discovering that our parent's living situation is no longer safe for them and how to identify the best option for their continued safety and comfort. As a registered nurse and caregiver for my own father, I highly recommend this valuable resource. …….  This guide is comprehensive and not only addresses the issues of knowing when help is needed but is an invaluable tool for comparing and contrasting different senior care facilities.  The "Tear Out Lists” are wonderful and can be copied and taken to each facility in order to find the best option for your loved one. I'll be using it again tomorrow.”
